Susan A. Lawless received her B.A. degree, with highest honors, in Political Science from Rutgers University in 1985. While attending Seton Hall University School of Law in the evenings, Ms. Lawless worked for Allstate Insurance Company. She received her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1994. In 1994, Ms. Lawless joined the firm of Nowell, Amoroso & Mattia, where she practiced in the areas of toxic tort and environmental insurance defense.
Ms. Lawless joined the Purcell firm as an associate in 1996 and was elevated to partner in 2004. Her practice areas currently include complex litigation, products liability, employment law, toxic torts, land use matters, insurance coverage, and construction litigation. She also served as Assistant to Special Master C. Judson Hamlin, J.S.C. (Ret.), who was appointed by the State of New Jersey, Office of Attorney General, to manage numerous national class actions alleging pension fund securities fraud. Ms. Lawless currently chairs the Hanover Township, PA Planning Commission, where she currently resides.
Ms. Lawless is a member of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Bar Associations, and the Morris and Somerset County Bar Associations. She is a member of the Insurance Committee of the New Jersey Defense Association and a member of the New Jersey Licensed Beverage Association. She is a graduate of the Joseph Halpern American Inn of Court.
